It’s half past eight on a Wednesday night, and designer Jake Wall and the creative team at JAKE are busy working at the atelier and flagship showroom in San Francisco. It’s a typical scene for the Project Runway alum and his team, whose standout pieces have become a fixture at San Francisco’s red carpet galas. This time, however, their creation isn’t for opening night at the symphony. It’s for a white carpet. A wedding.

With a painstaking attention to detail, they put the finishing touches on a trumpet-tailed gown. The detachable shirting-style collar and sleeve cuffs wink to JAKE’s suiting history, while the high neck and hand-finished fabric give the look a timeless, heirloom quality. A dress that simultaneously exudes strength and beauty – much like the woman who’ll wear it.

It’s not your standard wedding look because the bride who’ll wear it isn’t your standard bride. This is a woman who enjoys a stiff drink, a raucous adventure, and a sartorial risk. She wants to stand out from the princess frocks that dominate the wedding blogs – so she enlists a designer who’s not afraid to pass over traditional bridal fabrics, in favor of textiles like neoprene, polka dot organza, or a tone-on-tone white sequined camo. She is fearless. Much like JAKE.
